About J D Lambright


On November 6, 2012, J D Lambright was elected by the voters to serve as Montgomery County Attorney.  He was officially sworn in on January 1, 2013.  J D began his second term January 1, 2017 following his re-election on November 8, 2016.  In the March 1, 2016 Primary, Lambright won all 90 voting precincts over his opponent.  The County Attorney serves a 4 year term.

As the chief legal advisor for the County, the County Attorney oversees a staff of approximately 30 people including attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, investigators, and an administrative manager.  Under J D’s leadership in his first year in office, the County Attorney’s office was recognized as the Department of the Year for 2013.  This was the first time in the history of this recognition program that the office had received this prestigious award.  Just 3 years later in 2016, the County Attorney’s office was again recognized as the Department of the Year.

In 2014, J D was selected as Montgomery County’s Boss of the Year out of a field of 17 nominees from throughout the county.  He was again the recipient of the Boss of the Year honor in 2015.

J D holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law. Prior to being elected County Attorney, J D owned and operated a private law practice for 13 years in Conroe.  During that time, he handled a broad variety of civil, family, criminal, and probate cases.

Before opening his own law firm in 1999, J D enjoyed a 25 year career at Shell Oil Co. and Shell E&P Technology Co. in Houston as a geophysicist / electrical engineer.  During his employment at Shell, he managed numerous technical geophysical projects, both operational & research , in various areas around the world, including onshore & offshore continental United States, Alaska, South America, Central America, and Southeast Asia. During his last two years at Shell, he was a Business Interface Manager for Shell E&P Technology Company, the research division of Shell Oil Co.

J D served three terms on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Bar Association, and he served for 11 years as a Director and General Counsel of the Montgomery County Dispute Resolution Center.  He is a 2010 graduate and former Board member of Leadership Montgomery County, and he is a 2009 graduate of the Conroe Police Department Citizen Police Academy.  Additionally, J D is a member of the Conroe Noon Lions Club where he previously served on the Board of Directors, and he is a lifetime member of the Montgomery County Fair Association.
